Born in the hills of West Virginia and raised on a diet of pepperoni rolls and Ecto Cooler Hi-C, Justin surprised everyone by surviving to adulthood. Now he letters comics. His eventual dream is the same as everyone else – to work full time from home in his underwear.
Which creators are inspirations to you?
Letterers never get any love so I’m only listing letterers – Todd Klein, Joe Caramagna, and Dave Sharpe.
What is your favorite part of lettering?
This is going to make me sound like tons of fun, but I like figuring out the placement of speech balloons. Where’s the best place to put one so it doesn’t cover art and allows the page to flow naturally.
Comics are fun. Everyone needs a little bit of fun in their life.
Favorite comic of all time?
Y: The Last Man.
Favorite comic movie of all time?
It’s a tie – Guardians of the Galaxy and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
Worst comic movie?
I hated The Spirit.
Do you listen to music, watch a certain show or are you in silence when you letter?
I do better work when I’m listening to music. It usually ranges from Weezer to Weird Al to some ska.
